Caryatids were rediscovered in Renaissance times in Italy.
In France, they were to be found from the XVIth century onwards at the Palace of Fontainebleau in the gallery commissioned by king François I (from Italian artists), in the Louvre in the "salle des Cariatides" carved by Jean Goujon sculptor to king Henry II.
