Animal symbolism:
Rat: yes, there are rats (very few) on Parisian façades: e.g. 19 rue du Mont Cenis, 10 rue d'Assas to illustrate La Fontaine's fable "the lion and the rat"; it is indeed one of the animals most often selected by the poet: it represents the weak who compensate their lack of strength by their intelligence.
